Peter Dinklage really got to showcase his Shakespearean acting chops with his monologues. And of course lovely British humour throughout. Olivia Colman was a delight as always. Mike Flanagan loves his melodrama (not an insult) As a body horror fan, the movie was exactly what I wanted it to be. Disgusting, gory, and stomach turning. The deaths are hard to look at, the action is tense, and the creativity really surprises me. As a cinema snob, the script could have used some work. Secondary characters all had generic lines, the third act needed 15+ minutes added to it, and certain elements (namely the ending) could have been made more clear to non -Batman fans who might end up being confused 8/10 for me, but I have my Clayface bias so we'll see what Reddit thinks."},{"movie":"Clayface","rank":46,"type":"dark_words_positive_verdict","human":1,"text":"Clayface is a good horror movie Tom Rhys Harries performance is great! I have not seen him a lot in other projects but this is a breakout role for him. I like that he played Matt as an impulsive person with Mia, the nanites, and the first couple of killings. All the other actors who got a chance to play Clayface when Clayface shapeshifted were great I think the works well enough as blend of character study, revenge story, and body horror but maybe 10mins more would have benefitted the movie The body horror is not as gross or wild as I thought it would be. However, the plane scene is incredible, especially when he tried opening the eye slit with his fingers and the skin strummed like a guitar string I think the pace of the movie was much slower than expected in the first 2 acts but the club scene in the 3rd act was worth it. The club scene was so silly and violent at the same time. Some of the kills were really great. The standout ones were smothering Cory, which was an smart way to show the face pressing against the fabric horror trope, and the kill of Marko with all the blood rushing back to Matt. I thought I saw Aaron Paul for a split second as Matt's father when Clayface was switching forms but he wasn't credited. It was extremely cathartic to see her be as openly baffled and disgusted by Billy as I was. It seemed to me like Amanda had probably already given it some thought, but was ultimately comfortable with the idea of portraying her in the show. But there was a level of cognitive dissonance to her rationalizations that made me uncomfortable. It seemed to me that she was genuinely hurt that Elizabeth said something along the lines of \"How could one woman do that to another woman\" when earlier in the film Amanda had expressed a woman-to-woman desire to help Elizabeth get out of what she perceived to be an abusive relationship. It hit her right where it hurt. I think she felt in community with Elizabeth and it kind of rocked her to hear that Elizabeth felt the exact opposite. I know she’s all over the marketing and trailers but imo Billy is the main subject of the documentary. Honestly I never thought a movie would get me to have some sympathy for Holmes, but that relationship is just so clearly filled with manipulative abuse it’s astonishing to see. I think my jaw dropped when he revealed he has POA over her. Just the way he constantly restricted her and her grandparents from talking to Nathan and the way he kept finding ways to interject and stop anyone from getting access to her in prison was pretty chilling to watch. And yet at the same time, I’m forced to remember that she also is a con artist, so I love the way the movie leaves up in the air just how in on the whole thing she really is and how much is her putting on her character, the same one she keeps insisting the Times misquoted her on. I’m so tired of the same jumpscares, cliches, and cinematography. I absolutely think they marketed this movie wrong and pulled in the wrong audience for the movie. If we’re being realistic and judging in that manner, this movie does it much better than other movies have. You’re dealing with an INCREDIBLY powerful demon. The last thing it’s doing is throwing cups across the room or stacking chairs on a table. It’s going to throw you, attack you and your family, move you and your consciousness beyond your will, and kill people to get to you. It’s not the same-old “oh timmy don’t talk to your imaginary friend”. The glitter blood… the demon was trying to “comfort” the child in the form. When it transforms and kills the guy investigator, he explodes in real blood because the demon feels intimidated and dropped the persona. It knew she(the girl) was watching when the investigator lady (I forget both of their names) touched her, so it killed the painted her with sparkle nail polish and just deflated her. My favorite part of this film was that biker getting hit for no fucking reason and having absolutely zero impact on the story. Breaking down the actual film now: if anyone behaved like a normal human being, we have zero story. First off, don’t title something MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY and use your real names while writing about killing your child, especially right after the accident. Second, Jeremy is a dumbass for trying to kill her instead of calling the police or, I don’t know, TALKING TO HER. Lowen is dumb for going along with everything and being a pain in the ass for the entire film. My biggest issue, though: Lowen and Verity spend time together. Alone. After Lowen finds the manuscript. FUCKING TELL HER YOU DIDN’T KILL THE KID AND YOU’RE SCARED. The editing and dialogue were terrible too. Josh Hartnett wasn’t awful, at least. Like, who has a frightening experience with an inhuman creature mimicking the wife/mother and then holds a party in the same house right after? Who watches a man get exploded-peeled out of existence like some sort of human banana in a microwave and then can spend even one moment sitting in a fast-food place and act even the least bit normal? Who witnesses a couple lose their kid in the ball pit at a fast-food place, then sees every car's alarm go off all at the same time and the lost kid comes tumbling out of one of the cars in a waterfall of ball pit balls and just stands around going, \"huh... weird.\" Who hosts a Ghost Hunters style seance only to see the medium get deflated like a leaky balloon, a giant hand-tree monolith monstrosity rise up in the shape of her daughter, a camera man explodes against the wall trying to fight it, and then just hangs out on their front stoop and casually waves as her daughter and husband and granddaughter all clamber into their car to go die somewhere else to it? And so many moments where it was like, \"Are you trying to get this kid killed?\" This thing wants our daughter? We should go sit in a busy restaurant where it would be incredibly easy to lose track of her. We should let her grandmother take her out on the beach at night... I'm sure nothing could possibly happen out on that dark beach with a frail, elderly woman guarding her. Let's go home now and run a bath. Make sure to put a red bath bomb in it! NOTHING CAN POSSIBLY HAPPEN. Not to mention, NO KID IS GOING TO BE LIKE, \"OH SHE'S NICE. SHE WANTS TO WEAR ME LIKE A SUIT AND KEEPS BEGGING TO BE 'IN MY HEART' AND LOOKS LIKE MOMMY BUT HER FACE GETS ALL SCARY AND TWISTED AND IT FRIGHTENS ME BUT I TOTALLY LOVE PLAYING WITH HER DESPITE THE CONSTANT MOMENTS OF TERROR.\""},{"movie":"Other Mommy","rank":92,"type":"polite_or_mixed_words_negative_verdict","human":-1,"text":"Very disappointing, the trailer was much better than the movie and it was misleading. There is absolutely no suspense at all because everyone knows about Other Mommy in the first 5 minutes. The majority of the movie should have been tense not knowing if it was Other Mommy or the actual mom. Movie was not scary at all and I’m absolutely sick of the “let’s talk about our feelings” to beat the monster trope. Also, the ghost hunter scene ended so abruptly with no explanation which was just baffling. And I found Ursula to be an extremely unlikable character."},{"movie":"Primetime","rank":86,"type":"dark_description_no_verdict","human":0,"text":"I didn’t find that ending to be happy. Before we even saw if he got his SAG AFTRA, I was thinking that it’s a loss either way after all he’s been through. They kind of hint that he’s reclusive after the show. I wouldn’t say this is great and quite forgettable. Ortega was brilliant and I liked Adams. Tharia was the least likeable character and she didn’t do much. Even Rick was on screen less and had a huge presence. I felt like Klara had a bigger bond with all other characters except Tharia."}]}
